The island of CIrella

In front of the coast between Diamante and Cirella is the Cirella Island. Dominated by a lush Mediterranean vegetation, it houses the ruins of a watchtower that was used in the past to spot any Saracen attacks. It had a square plan and a height of about 10 meters. The island, easily reachable from the coast or from the small port of Diamante, is characterized by the presence of caves, small inlets and submerged cliffs. On the backdrops surrounding it some archaeological finds of
Greek-Roman period. On the east side, instead, there are prairies of Poseidonia oceanica, among which the protected species "Pinna nobilis"
